eARC BOOK REVIEW...Perfectly Broken by Prescott Lane

Title:  Perfectly Broken
Author:  Prescott Lane
Publication Date: March 25th 2014 (first published March 1st 2014)
Goodreads URL: HERE
Plot:   Even after years of trauma therapy, Peyton still believes she’s broken. She has little desire to date or show off her natural beauty, content simply to hang out with her best friends and run her pie shop in New Orleans. But her world turns upside-down when a handsome architect and self-confessed player shows up in her shop and thinks she’s perfect, much more than the usual hook-up. While Peyton does her best to resist his charms, believing she could never be enough for him, she can’t deny the obvious heat between them. With Reed determined to have her, Peyton must decide whether to continue to hide behind her apron and baggy clothes or take a chance and share her scars with Reed, a man with a playboy reputation and scars of his own -- a dark past he can’t possibly share with Peyton, not after learning the horrors she’s endured. But if they can find a way to trust each other, and themselves, they just might be able to heal, to save each other, to live perfectly broken together.

MY REVIEW:

Take a broken girl and a man with a reputation.

After a traumatic event changed the course of Peyton Mayfield’s life, years later, she still feels broken.

Day after day, she hides away in baggy clothes while working in her grandmother’s pie shop and seeking regular trauma therapy sessions with a specialist.

When fate brings Reed Langston into the shop, can old hurts be finally mended? Will she take a chance at life and let go of the past and live for her future? Or will her fear render her life forever?

So Reed..

Reed has the world by his fingertips: he’s handsome, successful, and has his pick of women.

Only…when a dirty family secret shows its ugly head, can he hold on to the girl of his dreams? Or will it tear them apart?

And even more so, when an ex flame and a new suitor compete for both his and Peyton’s affections, how will things all turn out?

Read and you will find out!

My thoughts:

description

Okay, so first things first. After chatting with the author today and her shedding some light on things, it made me look at Peyton in a different perspective. Originally, I had thought Peyton to be a little over dramatic and sensitive to things but after remembering what a friend of mine had told me it finally clicked. I mean, unless you've put yourself in someone else's shoes, it is easy to make judgement and be hard on them.

This proved to be the case for me with Peyton.

Peyton's vulnerability is actually what made her journey so beautiful and meaningful. It is her struggles and triumphs along with Reed that make the story so undeniably beautiful even though she feels tainted (at first).

As for Reed.... well, I really liked him despite his faults. For him, sins of the past really does rear its hold on the present. I'm not saying that Reed was a Saint before meeting Peyton because he wasn't; he was a self- proclaimed man whore and did his share of wrongs.

But after meeting Peyton, then things finally come to light for Reed and he finally has reason or purpose to put old demons to rest.

My only remaining peeve though if anything is just pacing. In the beginning and throughout, I had altering views on whether the story line was going at the right pacing or was dragging. This was quickly diminished though when it hit the last legging of the story and the story just zipped on through and left me feeling a little unsettled. I mean, it was really too rushed and I felt as if some things were just not really resolved. But that’s just me.

So, my conclusion:

A great read with heart! I definitely recommend this read to those of you who feel damaged and inadequate and feel as if you are stuck in a rut that you can’t come out of!!

It will teach you that despite the sh*tty circumstances you’re given, life goes on and can be wonderful if you give it the chance!

So overall, a delightful read filled with drama, hope, angst, love; and also some quirky characters like Dr. Lorraine, Quinn and her boyfriend Bret, as well as the lovely Marion. <3

*I was given an ARC by the author for an honest review. Thank you!!*

My Rating:
-Overall : 8.5
-Plot : 8.5
-Writing : 8.5
-Characters : 8
-Cover : 8.5
