Plot: Life changes in the span of a heartbeat. One, tiny heartbeat.
Blake and Layla have lived through disappointment and regret, only finally finding relief with the powerful love they have for each other. A love they intend to fight to keep.
They’ve had to forgive each other, but can they truly move forward without facing the pain of the past?
Layla’s been avoiding the phone calls. Nine months pregnant and exhausted, she doesn’t want the complication. But she can’t run from the truth. Whoever’s calling was there eighteen years ago. Unlike her, he remembers the night that changed the course of her life, and he’s ready to talk.
Blake’s preoccupied with an email, a few simple sentences sent through cyberspace that have the capability to rob him of his sanity, his freedom, and the people he loves most in the world. When he’s called home for a mysterious reason, leaving Layla isn’t ideal, but hope for reconciliation combined with his brother’s secrecy ignites a curiosity he refuses to ignore.
Putting the pain behind them is no longer an option.
To get the answers they need, they must face the past and open up old wounds that threaten to bleed them dry.
☆✮ My Review ✮☆
☆ I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, hun!! ☆
“You’re my true love. My first and only true love, Blake”He brings my hand to his lips and slides soft kisses against my skin.“First…and last.♥”
A Father’s Fight was one of those genuine reads where you can’t stop but turn the page and awe at those precious moments in life.
With Blake and Layla newly engaged and expecting a baby on the way, you’d think they’d be clear of their worries. Boy, are they so wrong!
Author J.B. Salsbury doesn’t throw in any over the top gimmicks and plot devices in this fifth installment. It’s pretty stripped down to basic human values of love, family, forgiveness, sacrifice, and the lengths you will go to protect them.
Both Blake and Layla go though their own share of personal plights and confrontations throughout this read. For Layla, it’s what happened 18 years ago that led to the birth of her daughter, Axelle Rose. And for Blake, it’s about going back to the homefront and making what was broken, right.
★★★★★★★
A Father’s Fight, was by far, one of the more touching reads from the Fighting series. Sometimes even if it’s hard or you try hard to forget, you still need to confront scars of your past to pave way toward your future. You can stumble, you can fall, you can make mistakes, or you can triumph.
“Everything life throws affects who we become. Different experiences wouldn’t have brought me to where I am today.”
“There are periods where we soar and some where we plummet, but as long as we hold fast to what matters, fight for the things that count, we die happy knowing we did our best to battle for what matters most.”
“We’ve all made mistakes, screwed up in varying degrees, but we can’t allow our mistakes to define our future. We have to look ahead, focus on that next step in the right direction, and fight hard to get what we want, even if that feels like throwing punches to the wind. At least we fight, and if we go down, we go down swinging.”
But most importantly, NEVER give up that fire, that fight in you. And ALWAYS safeguard with all you have, those you value most.
