Blog Tour Review & Giveaway!- Sebring (Unfinished Hero, #5) by Kristen Ashley

Blog Tour Graphic
Title:  Sebring (Unfinished Hero, #5)
Author: Kristen Ashley
Publication Date: January 11th 2016
Plot: Nick Sebring has issues. Born feeling like an outsider in his own family, growing up under the shadow of a brother who could do anything, Nick isn’t that great of a guy. But when this culminates with Nick lashing out to hurt his brother through the woman he loves, Nick turns inward and makes some decisions about the man he intends to be.

And as he does this, he falls in love and truly learns the man that he’s grown to be.

When his love is murdered right before Nick’s eyes, Nick knows he has to avenge her. He knows how he’s going to avenge her. And he has no qualms using Olivia Shade to exact that vengeance.

Olivia Shade has grown up on the outside of her family too. Her problem is that they don’t want her outside. They want her all the way in, right under their thumbs. She pays the price for seeking escape and learns her lesson—she’ll never see a dawn where she wakes up free.

Then she meets Nick Sebring, and even as she fights it, the hope that died years ago starts to blossom. She can find love. She can have a man of her own. She can be happy. She can be free.

Olivia hopes while Nick schemes.

However, as Nick peels back the layers of all that is Olivia Shade, he finds something surprising. He understands its fragility. He falls in love with its beauty. He seeks to protect it.

But he forgets to protect his Livvie from one thing: Nick Sebring.
 My Review

☆ I received an ARC via Kristen Ashley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!! ☆

Nick Sebring. This dude had a lot of redeeming to do since his Knight days, since to put it lightly, I did not like him. Not at all.

His character was kind of like the anti-hero throughout, and reading this, it was quite put into perspective why he is the way he is.

He’s a conflicted, and yet complicated character. He’s always been the underdog in his family, living in the shadow of a brother who can do no wrong, and later leaving behind a sh*&storm behind him. And now he’s on a vendetta that could cost him his own very heart and soul.

Olivia. She’s an interesting and damaged character through and through. This girl who wants nothing more to escape her family’s influence and business has no idea what is in store for her by her meeting the enigmatic Nick Sebring.

I was definitely torn for both of these characters as you see Olivia try to dust herself away from the taintedness that is her life and try to cling onto what she feels is her savior (Nick) in disguise. And Nick, trying to pull himself out of the muck he’s in and try to pave a new slate for himself while making things right.

I would say, all in all, this book—aside from the love story aspect, is purely about redemption. It really is. It was about Nick reclaiming and redeeming himself and about Olivia taking back control of her own life.

I was constantly at awe how Kristen Ashley made me feel for this read and it’s bittersweet farewell to this wonderful series. This is actually the second book franchise I had picked up from her, and the only one, I’ve ever read from start to finish. Not that I didn’t like or feel the other series’ interesting.

It’s just that, Unfinished Heroes got me, excited me, and kept my wheels turning on end. As much as I am sad to see it go, now, it gives me time to venture back and backtrack the other KA books and series I have missed or have not had the chance to pick up yet.

Farewell, Knight, Creed, Raid, Deacon, and now Sebring!! It’s been a pleasure!!

 Excerpt

In the hotel room, Nick heard the knock at the door.
He moved to it, looked out the peephole and felt the corners of his mouth hitch up when he saw her.
Fuck, those big green eyes, perfectly arched dark brows, the olive tint to her skin, the expert way she shaded under her cheekbones…
She was a coldhearted criminal but she was one that was very easy to look at.
And even easier to fuck.
He opened the door.
He was going to say something but he didn’t get the chance when her hand darted out and she caught him under his jaw, using it to push him in and around until his back hit wall.
She stared up at him, her hand wrapped around his jaw, her expression holding an emptiness that was so extreme it was almost like a void he could fall into and get lost forever.
He heard the door swish closed and latch.
Then she was up on her toes, her head moving toward his, those green eyes dropping to his mouth.
She didn’t get her lips to his before his tongue was out, as was hers, both of them colliding and tangling before her mouth slammed to his just as her body pushed in, pressing hard, forcing him tighter to the wall.
He shoved out. Gripping her wrist at his jaw, he yanked it down, twisting and slamming her against the wall, slanting his head to deepen an already deep kiss. Their tongues again clashing before he actually took her mouth.
But he took her mouth.
And like she’d done to his, he consumed it.
His fingers still around her wrist, he yanked it around his back, using his body to shove her tight to the wall, pressing his hardening cock against her stomach.
She arched, and moving quickly, whipped him around so his back was to the wall and she took over the kiss. Tearing her wrist from his hold, she curled her fingers around his throat just as she cupped his hardening crotch with her other hand.
Fucking hell, this woman was hot.
But he was done playing.
And he was done kissing.
Her mouth, that was.
He pushed her away. She struggled to regain control.
She lost this struggle when he caught her hand and dragged her down the short hall into the room.
She lost her footing when he gave her hand a strong tug and she fell into him with a soft gasp.
He let her hand go, caught her hips and threw her four feet onto the bed.
That got him another soft gasp which took his cock from hardening to rock-solid and throbbing.
He bent over her, holding her now intense green gaze, spanning her hips with his hands. Shoving backwards, he found the hook of her skirt, released it and pulled down the zipper.
He moved his fingers to curl them into the sides of her skirt’s waistband. With a vicious tug that took her hips and panties with it, he yanked off the skirt.
Chest to the bed, eyes to her cunt, the black curls neatly groomed with a precision that meant her wax technician was a master with possible OCD issues, they were also glistening with wet.
Having the tussle at the door, seeing the utter perfection of her pussy, smelling her, watching her legs part in invitation, her knees shifting up, Nick couldn’t have gone gentle if he’d wanted to.
Luckily he didn’t want to.
He bent his neck and devoured her.
Fuck, she tasted just as perfect as she looked.
As he fed, he felt her excitement ramp. Tasted it. Ate it. Gave her more. Consumed the result. Drove her to the edge.
And when he had her there, he stopped and moved over her.
Not surprisingly, she used both the pump she already had planted into the bed and the calf she had wrapped around him to flip him and then she was straddling him, pushing up, her hands already to his fly.
Normally, he would not allow this.
Her face flushed with need, her manner urgent, even desperate, all that surged through his blood, his gut, straight to his cock.
So he allowed this.
She tugged his pants down, grabbed his dick, guided it to her and took him home.
At the beauty of her sheathing him, he gritted his teeth against the urge to let go and release way too fucking early. Bucking his hips, he watched how much she liked taking him, her head thrown back, her shining, straight mass of silken black hair swaying.
Then she dropped forward into a hand in the bed by his side, locked eyes with him and rode him violently as he watched until she gave it to herself and she kept doing it until she forced it from him.
Fucking spectacular.
He came down buried inside her, his eyes opening to see her still resting in her hand in the bed, her body moving gently with her still-labored-but-evening breathing, her dark hair framing her oval face, her straight bangs brushing her lashes, her green eyes locked to his trying to brand him, make him hers.
No way in fuck that was happening.
But he’d take more of this.
A lot more.
That said, the woman was going to learn how to give up control.
Not surprisingly, without a word, she swung off his cock, moving immediately toward the side of the mattress.
Nick focused on pulling up his trousers, doing the fly and angling off the bed. By the time he was up and had turned his attention back to her, she was on her feet, facing him, arms twisted behind her to do up the skirt she’d put on.
He held her gaze.
“We got all night, Olivia,” he informed her.
Not even a hint of a response to him calling her the name she hadn’t given him.
Then again, he knew she knew him; she’d make it her business.
She also knew he’d do the same with her, even before he sat next to her the night before.
Her expression might not have changed but his words spurred her to action, this being walking his way.
She stopped. Her eyes still on his, she lifted a hand and touched his chest lightly with just the pad of her middle finger.
It lasted half a second.
Then she dropped her hand, turned and walked away.
He heard the door close behind her and he couldn’t stop his smile.
Fuck yes, a seriously cool customer.
And the hottest fuck he’d had in his life.

 About the Author

Kristen for banner

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Two individuals, both not a stranger to heartbreak and loss, come together in this unforgettable story that left me a little teary.

I’ve always loved reads that circle around the importance of love and family and this book has it in every single breath of it.

Jules is a woman carrying an unbearable suffrage that only those who have experienced it can imagine. And Guy (hah, what a name!), is man carrying the world on his shoulders.

When both meet through Finn, one of Guy’s children and also Jules’ new patient—Guy and Jules find themselves whisked away on a tumultuous attraction...

TEASER ONE

Along with, finally confronting heart-wrenching grief, loss, budding friendship, and the thrall of falling in love.

TEASER FOUR

It was not an easy partnership, that’s for sure. Each have hang ups and heavy real-life issues on their plates. With Guy being a doctor, a father to one healthy and one ailing child, and a tragedy on his back. And Jules being scarred beyond compare, it was quite a trek, watching them open themselves to the other and learning how to heal from their pasts.

TEASER TWO

Guy and Jules are absolute perfection and most certainly “soul-mates” in every sense of the word. Authors Riley Mackenzie did an astounding job bringing these characters to life and bringing home the vulnerability of valid predicaments and how in the end there is always a light at the end of the tunnel no matter how bleak things may get.

Gawd, this book was a gem!!

Yep. That's an “s.” There are two of us!

We’re East coast girls separated by Long Island Sound who met in Physician Assistant School and have been besties ever since. We can safely say that thirteen miles of water does not get in the way because we talk or text, no exaggeration, at least 150 times a day. No, really, we do—about everything and nothing. Shockingly, we never (we mean never) run out of things to say. Umm, ever. We definitely laugh A LOT and we’re a tad sarcastic. And if we’re being totally honest, one or two people might have, on occasion, used our names and ‘dramatic’ in the same sentence. But it’s hard to trust the sources since they married us.

It only took twelve years, two husbands, five kids, two dogs, and a two-week vacation in Cape Cod later to decide the romance world needed a splash of medicine. Write what you know.
So you can easily find us at 4 o'clock on Bank Street beach with a glass of cold Prosecco brainstorming. And guaranteed if we bump into you, literally, it’s only because our iPhones are glued to our hands (totally out of our control) either writing or editing our next novel (and yes, it is possible to do from your iPhone, we mastered it … damn those straight quotations).

When we are not working on our book or reading the latest angsty romance on our kindles, you basically name it and we have it going on. Soccer, lacrosse, golf, swimming, dance, gymnastics, football, chess, baseball, basketball, skiing, ice skating, school, homework, and more school.
Oh yeah, did we forget to mention our careers in medicine?

Needless to say, we realized fast that something had to go, so we opted for sleep. It’s completely overrated (yet so AMAZING) and delirium makes everything funnier. Good thing we share a brain and can pretty much complete each other’s sentences (definitely weird, we know), otherwise it might have taken us two years to write Beautifully Awake rather than one.

So that’s our story, who we are … just add AUTHORS to the list!

description

“Sometimes the melding comes through a friendship so kindred that the bond is timeless, and restlessness…joining paramours can never be severed.”

A little hard and confusing to get into at first-- with all of the new magic concepts and explanations of who and what is what-- I REALLY LOVED this fresh, innovative, and out of the box concept of a modern romance with a dark, ethereal twist.

As you can already guess, this is a supernatural read-- with wizards&witches and different types of shifters involved in the mix, and I have to say, it was a hell of a lot different from other paranormal romance reads I’ve come across thus far, which is one hell of a huge accomplishment for Eden’s first venture into the paranormal.

Janiver “Jani” Benoit has been bewitched with Bane Illes since before she can remember. And him vice versa. They feel a pull to each other… a magnetic tug that magnifies everytime they’re in the same room or near the other that screams, “mine!”

Only problem is, Jani is a low-class witch and Bane is the sole heir to the most powerful coven in all of Crimson Cove and is expected to marry a girl from another influential clan. They can never be together. And yet, everything inside them points that they are meant to be.

But then, Jani ran away and hid a secret, binding her and Bane’s fates together even more intricately and vastly than they could ever imagine. She wants to let go of what can never be but cannot. He wants to know what she kept from him.

Now fast forward ten years later, after a coveted magical artifact is stolen from Crimson Cove, the lines are even more blurred when Jani is called back to help retrieve it before havoc and mayhem ensue, and right of the center of it is Bane.

Can she do her job and not lose her heart?

Will she and Bane have a chance at love with heavy opposition against them? And can they embark on the spark that has never gone away no matter what distance or spell cast?

“There’s only one who’s claimed Bane Iles and we both know who that is. Don’t we?”

I would have LOVE, LOVED a Bane POV of things, and what was going on in his head, but at the same time, I loved the mysterious, enigmatic feel of what he brought to the table. I was itching to know what he knew of the past, what he felt for Jami, and his feelings toward all of the obligations he has stacked under his belt. It was definitely a conundrum of expectations to live up to.

As for Jani. I really felt her character laid everything on the line and more. She did what she had to do because she thought it was for the better of everyone. She is strong, level headed, extremely self less, and isn’t one of those whiny characters you want to strangle. She is sympathetic in every aspect of what she says and does.

All in all, a wonderful standalone that will entrance you and captivate you from start to finish!! I cannot stress how much I enjoyed reading this! #oneclicknow

 Excerpt

CRIMSON COVE EXCERPT THREE: Your secrets are your own, he finally said, a little of his confidence dimmed, but his resolve stronger than ever.  Good, I thought. He’ll need it.They are.              One step forward and Bane stared down at me. Then why do I get the feeling that what’s behind that wall isn’t just for you?              Beyond us, I sensed the weight of the lines trying to breech across the safeguard Bane had placed inside me. He sensed it too, even nodded toward it when I looked at him, expecting confirmation. But he wanted an answer, didn’t seem to care that his spell had worked on me.  Don’t go poking, Bane. Not all secrets need telling.              Bane was only a foot away from me, his mind likely lingering around the confusion of that day, ten years ago, and the heat he thought he’d imagined. But it had been real. Hell, it was still so damn real and even with him tempering the lines from me, Bane seemed to know it too. A warning, he started looking as though he wasn’t sure if he wanted me or wanted to be angry with me. I may not be able to have complete awareness of your thoughts, but I can tell what direction they’re heading toward.Meaning?Meaning if I piss you off, I’m gonna know. I shook my head, not caring if Bane knew how often he pissed me off. Meaning that if I do something you like, he moved his gaze down my body, then back up, Well, I’ll know just how much you like what I do.And if someone else does something I like? He grunted, but remained silent. I mean, if say, one of those primal, alpha shifters do something I really, really like...͟I’ll damn well know. The clip of his voice was a warning I took to heart.  I see.              There was little time left now for us to squabble or argue over what I kept from him so when I turned away, needing the distance, and he grabbed my arm, stopping me, and the shock was quick and, despite knowing him as I did, unexpected. That daydream...͟ He pressed his lips together. Felt damn real.

My eyes kept steady on my wrist in his grip, as though on their own, they’d decided looking at Bane wouldn’t be smart. Why are you touching me again? Finally able to control myself, I looked up. The spell is over.Is it?              There was something new, something strange to how Bane pulled me in. The lines weren’t calling me, insisting that I take him, claim him once again. They were, in fact, nothing more than a quiet whisper I could barely make out, begging now instead of insisting. The sensation had no bite, not as it did before Bane’s spell, but there was still a heat between us, that constant energy that no block could keep from us. We were drawn to each other even without the lines’ interference. Bane...͟ He inched closer and I held my breath as that pull—our pull—between us drew us closer. What am I thinking now?              He growled, rushing toward my mouth, warming it with just a brush of his lips. The same damn thing I am. He gripped my face between his fingers and kissed me hard, scorching against my mouth like he wanted to claim it. God, how I wish he would, and just that thought made that low, deep groan in Bane’s throat transform into a growl of pleasure.                The air around us dropped, the temperatures cooling the wind, bringing brittle leaves and small twigs from the trees around us. Nothing slipped into my thoughts as we came closer, as I forgot that I wasn’t supposed to touch Bane, that he belonged to someone else, that he was meant for something else in which I played no part. But just for that moment, I wanted to take him. I wanted his touch and taste all over me.                At the thought, Bane broke away, his hot, hurried breath fanning down my nose as he rested his forehead against mine. This spell was an insanely bad idea. Why? Fingers fisted in his collar, he moved when I pulled him toward me, too eager, too anxious to keep from touching him.  God, Jani, because now I know you’ve been thinking the same thing I have since the second I walked into your apartment.              But I knew, I knew that it had all started for us far longer than a few days before.  Bane...͟Tell him no, I thought. Remind him who he is, who you are. But even thinking it was enough to settle him.  I don’t think I much care, he stopped me, answering my unspoken question about what would be or what should be. God help me. I don’t fucking care about any of it.              Like a flame igniting, like the rush of decision that is never given much thought, a decision that is more instinct than logic, we moved away from ourselves, from the people we were always supposed to be. There was no duty, no honor, no distinctions to be maintained, no expectations that need to be protected. We’d come this close before, the near making of something new, something forbidden, but this time I gave no thought to what would happen if I let Bane forget that I was not for him.

Just one flashing moment where we pulled against each other, where his touch felt like liquid fire on my skin, where my mouth against his throat made that huge man shudder at the feel of it. I don’t care either.              It was all it took. Providence, destiny, the twist of some life altering event set in motion by the lines, by the gods, by whatever it was that bent our wills, directed our paths down the roads we took. My declaration, my small lie that I truly didn’t care, was enough to pick apart the moment that might keep us from it. It was enough to ricochet into something that could never be unmade.                That’s when the screaming started.                In the quiet din of darkness, with Bane holding me, devouring my mouth, insisting my body bend this way and that, a scream rent through the moment and torn it to pieces, followed by another, and another.

ARC Review + Pre-Order Buy Links!- The Score (Off-Campus, #3) by Elle Kennedy

Title: The Score (Off-Campus, #3)
Author:  Elle Kennedy
Publication Date:  January 11th 2016
Plot: He knows how to score, on and off the ice

Allie Hayes is in crisis mode. With graduation looming, she still doesn’t have the first clue about what she's going to do after college. To make matters worse, she’s nursing a broken heart thanks to the end of her longtime relationship. Wild rebound sex is definitely not the solution to her problems, but gorgeous hockey star Dean Di-Laurentis is impossible to resist. Just once, though, because even if her future is uncertain, it sure as heck won’t include the king of one-night stands.

It’ll take more than flashy moves to win her over

Dean always gets what he wants. Girls, grades, girls, recognition, girls…he’s a ladies man, all right, and he’s yet to meet a woman who’s immune to his charms. Until Allie. For one night, the feisty blonde rocked his entire world—and now she wants to be friends? Nope. It’s not over until he says it’s over. Dean is in full-on pursuit, but when life-rocking changes strike, he starts to wonder if maybe it’s time to stop focusing on scoring…and shoot for love.

 My Review

#OMIGAH!!  JUST THE BOOK I WAS WAITING FOR!! LOVED THIS!

"Dean Heyward Di-Laurentis is in my blood now. I didn't expect the intense sexual chemistry between us, but it's here, and it's addictive, and I don't know how I can ever give it up."

Dean, man oh man, don't I understand how you did not contrive a STD by now, you sex fiend.

You thought the other men in the Off-Campus series were players. Pssh, Dean puts them to shame, and has no qualms about his sexual conquests out in the open for all eyes to see.

I really enjoyed his story as I had always wondered about him~~ Why didn't he care to play hockey pro? What's his backstory? Which lucky lady is it that will finally be his game changer and turn over his womanizing and man whore days? And why is he like that in the first place?

I thought his pairing with Allie was a sound and logical one, as it was basically two people different as night and day coming together and making rediscovering themselves while finding love.

Allie is the epitome of a good girl and what they call a "nester" when it comes to relationships.
Dean is a "wham-bam-thankyou- mam" fella who makes no apologies for what he does and how he lives his life.

Allie has dreams of making it big in acting.
Dean is at a standstill of what he wants to do with his life.

And yet, they complete each other completely and irrevocably.

I think what worked the most about this story was that it touched on real life subjects. In every young person's life, college is about forging your future, exploring, and making some very hard decisions.

Dean and Allie experience that in spades, while coming to terms with some very heavy past and present themes, losses, and setbacks that test every aspect of their relationship to the fullest.

Will they have what it takes to make things work between them? Or will everything crumble and fall apart?

"But maybe he needed to fall apart in order to learn that life isn't perfect, that bad things do happen and you can't stop living when they do."

Fans of this series will not let down, and will fall in love with every second of this gem! I know I did!

I am holding my breath for the next book of the series already, as we do get a big shocker at the end of The Score that will leave you shocked and itching for more!!

Can't, can't wait!
